I will be using the most commonly known names of books of the Scriptures instead of the Hebrew names to make it easier to access to even a brand new follower of The Way. For example, the book of John, instead of Yohanan. I will refer to the Messiah in both languages, Jesus or Yahushua. I will also mostly avoid the generic use of "God", rather, I will do my best to use Elohim or YHWH, depending on what is originally written there. I will mostly use The Scriptures translation, and I will include others where I think it would help.
Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning ELOHIM. First, ELOHIM is plural, as in "They". No further explanations on that, other than, that is what is written. The Most High has always been and is outside of time. This is why the finished work of Yahushua, which He did once for all, can be accessed by all humanity, because He is outside time, in eternity.
In the same beginning verses we are shown how the Most High does everything. In verse 2 the Spirit of Elohim was moving on the face of the waters, other translations say hovering. Then Elohim released His Word - He said.... It sure seems that the Spirit of Elohim was waiting for the Word of Elohim to make it so. Interesting that, having been made in His image, and having been sealed with His Spirit (2 Cor 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13-14), we are told in Mark 11:23 "For truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says, shall be done, he shall have whatever he says. Because of this I say to you, whatever you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them." There's also forgiveness involved, but that's all later.
1 John 4:7 forward - Elohim is Agape love. Just to be clear, this is NOT the same as saying that love is God(as I've heard some people on television say). Love is always relational, so although the finished work of Yahushua allows us to accept the new covenant (stronger than a contract) and gives us position in His Reign, He wants RELATIONSHIP. In my opinion, this is why we have been given marriage and families, as very crude example of how we should relate to our Heavenly Abba (Father). We must cultivate that relationship so that we do not find ourselves at the other end of "Depart from me, I never knew you" (Matthew 7:21). And by cultivate that relationship, I mean be obedient to The Most High, which Jesus repeats over and over in John 14:15, 21, 23-24, 31(Jesus obeys The Father because He loves Him), 15:9-10, 12(the commandment He is talking about), 13-14, 17. Basically read John 14 and 15. No, seriously, go read!
The finished work of Yahushua. John 3:16 "For Elohim so loved the world, that He gave His only brought-forth Son, that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but possess everlasting life." Yahushua willingly gave himself as a sacrifice, once, for us - Hebrews 10:10-14. The Most High gave us the highest example of what it means to Agapeo, to love others. There was an old covenant, and now He is our Mediator to the new covenant(Hebrews 8:6). For old/new covenant read Galatians 3 and 4 - yes, both CHAPTERS....but wait there's more!
Paid for by Yahushua - 1John 2:2 "And He Himself is an atoning offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world;" Acts 4:12 "And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved;" Ephesians 1:7 "in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of trespasses, according to the riches of His favour." But it's a free gift to us - Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the favourable gift of Elohim is everlasting life in Messiah Yahushua our Master," and that NOT BY WORKS, so that no one may boast - Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by favour you have been saved, through belief, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of Elohim, it is not by works, so that no one should boast." I will repeat this verse in a couple of different translations: Galatians 2:21 "I do not set aside the favour of Elohim, for if righteousness is through Torah, then Messiah died for naught;" From NASB translation "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness (comes) through the Law, then Christ dies needlessly."
That's it for this Foundation 1. Going from the milk of the Word to the meat of the Word will take the effort of looking up each scripture, then look up other verses containing similar words or concepts and keep studying as His Spirit leads. But I don't try to study large quantity, rather, whatever I can go in depth and UNDERSTAND. I must understand it and have it go into the good ground of my heart. And I say "good ground" of my heart by faith. I keep asking my Abba to make sure my heart is good ground. This is part of the process of being TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind. A new creation (2 Cor 5:17) with a transformed mind won't steal, won't lie, won't ....it will become easy to love Jesus (obey His command to love others), which is to follow the Way, which is to walk in the narrow way.
